Tour of South

The tour of South on Saturday morning was fantastic.  There are so many displays depicting the accomplishments of  South's students, including the 2012 Girls 4A State Basketball Champs picture on display in the gym, which our class donated. The Alumni Foundation is raising funds to finish the courtyard in front of the building.  One of our classmates made a very generous $500.00 contribution that day for that purpose.  The courtyard is a work in progress, and any contribution that you can make to South High School for this worthy cause will be greatly appreciated.  You can get your name on a plaque at the school for a $100 donation.  Before the tour began, John Reinert donated his winnings from the homecoming raffle back to the South High band. After our tour, Bill Genovese and Bob Marino provided a terrific continental breakfast for us.  We have such giving classmates.

Class Dinner and Dance and South Tour

Saturday, October 4

58 years and counting

Pueblo Community College (PCC) ballroom was the scene for a casual dinner and dance from 6 to 10 p.m.

The get-together started off with a very moving performance called the Empty Chair Ceremony.  This was done in honor of all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in the line of duty, but especially to Bob Jackson, our classmate, who gave his life for our country.  Butch Chavez, another of our classmates, organized this event for us and usually is a part of the performance, but he was unable to attend due to health issues.  The empty chair ceremony was followed by a moving slideshow by Sheryl Hutchings featuring the pictures of the 75 classmates we knew to be deceased.  Through conversations, we discovered that we've lost at least two more classmates of whom we were unaware:  David Warner Smith and Frank Colletti.

We feasted on an Italian buffet and enjoyed a few toasts from a cash bar.  Music was provided by our own alumnus, Sal Peritore, also known as Wax Jack.  Sheryl also created a funny Jib-Jab video clip featuring the Reunion Committee members.  Everybody got a kick out of this cute clip.

The food was delicious, the decorations and Memory Lane were spectacular, and the camaraderie and the reminiscing were the best. Please share your pictures of this wonderful evening with the rest of us!
